Somatic Experiencing®
What is Somatic Experiencing®?
Have you tried talk therapy, but still feel your body reacting to old stress or trauma?
Do you often feel numb, shut down, or disconnected from your emotions?
Do small triggers cause big physical or emotional reactions?
Would you like to feel calmer, more grounded, and more at home in your body?
If any of these sound familiar, it may not be “all in your head” — your body might be holding onto experiences of stress or overwhelm.
Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a gentle, body-centered approach that helps you release tension and restore your natural sense of safety and balance.
When we face overwhelming events, our natural fight, flight, or freeze responses can become “stuck,” leaving the body in a state of ongoing tension or hyper-vigilance. Somatic Experiencing helps you complete these instinctive responses in a safe, gradual way — allowing your body to release energy that was trapped during stress or trauma.
By working with — not against — your body’s instinctive responses, SE helps your nervous system complete what was left unfinished during times of stress or trauma. The result is greater resilience, calm, and the ability to move through life with more ease and presence.
People who work with SE often report improvements such as:
A deep sense of calm and grounding
Reduced anxiety, hypervigilance, or startle responses
Fewer physical symptoms related to chronic stress (tension, pain, fatigue, headaches)
Better emotional regulation and resilience
Improved sleep and overall energy
Increased body awareness and sense of safety
Healing from trauma without needing to re-experience the original event
Safety & Considerations
SE is typically facilitated by a trained Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).
It is safe and gentle but should be done with care, especially if you have a history of complex or developmental trauma.
Sessions move at your body’s pace, focusing on safety and gradual integration rather than cathartic release.
