Palliative Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Compassionate Support for Individuals and Families Navigating Serious Illness

Facing serious illness can bring profound questions, grief, fear, and uncertainty. It can also awaken a deep longing to reconnect; with ourselves, with the people we love, and with what matters most.

Our Palliative Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) program offers compassionate support for individuals navigating serious illness, end-of-life transitions, and profound life changes. We are honored to walk alongside patients and families during this sacred chapter with presence, dignity, and care.

We also offer no cost, pro bono Palliative KAP for folks navigating end of life transitions who may not have access to these medicines. Learn More About the Pro Bono Program

Healing Is More Than Treating Symptoms

Serious illness impacts far more than the body. Many people find themselves wrestling with:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Fear of death or uncertainty about what lies ahead

  • Grief and anticipatory grief

  • Chronic Pain

  • Unresolved trauma or emotional wounds

  • Changes in identity and meaning

  • Spiritual or existential questions

  • The desire to reconnect with loved ones

We believe these experiences deserve as much compassion and attention as physical symptoms.

Emerging Research

& the Benefits of KAP

A study of ketamine in palliative care found evidence that ketamine may provide rapid antidepressant effects and can be a promising intervention for depressive symptoms in people facing serious illness

Barbosa MG, Garcia GT, Sarin LM, Jackowski AP. (2023)

S-ketamine is associated with a rapid improvement in anxiety symptoms among patients receiving palliative care, suggesting ketamine may help address emotional suffering alongside physical symptoms.

Falk E, Schlieper D, van Caster P, et al. (2020)

Emerging clinical work in KAP palliative care suggests potential benefits for anxiety, depression, and existential distress—the psychological and spiritual suffering that can accompany serious illness and end-of-life transitions.

What Is

Ketamine-Assisted

Psychotherapy?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy combines carefully prescribed ketamine with preparation, therapeutic support, and integration sessions.

Ketamine can temporarily soften rigid patterns and create space for new perspectives, self-compassion, emotional healing, and deeper connection.

For some, the experience brings peace. For others, it creates opportunities to process grief, repair relationships, revisit meaningful memories, or reconnect with a sense of love, gratitude, or spiritual connection.

There is no expectation that a session be mystical or profound.

Sometimes healing looks like a difficult conversation finally being spoken.

Sometimes it looks like forgiveness.

Sometimes it looks like simply being able to rest.

Integrative Care for Everyone

  • Integration sessions to support meaning-making

  • Collaboration with hospice and medical teams

  • Support for partners, caregivers, and family members

We honor each person's unique beliefs, values, and spiritual orientation. There is no "right way" to move through this process.
